Professional staff at Academia Cotopaxi believe in the worth and dignity of each human being. We recognize the supreme importance of the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence and the nurturing of democratic principles. We believe that the protection of freedom to learn and to teach, and the guarantee of equal educational opportunity for all are essential to these goals. Each professional staff member at the School accepts the responsibility to adhere to the highest ethical standards.
We recognize the magnitude of the responsibility inherent in the teaching process. Our desire for the respect and confidence of one's colleagues, of students, of parents and of the members of the community provides the incentive to attain and maintain the highest possible degree of ethical conduct. The Code of Ethics of the Academia Cotopaxi Professional Staff indicates the aspiration of all educators and provides standards by which to judge conduct.
a. Any information about a student given to a professional staff member by parents will be used for professional purposes only and will be kept confidential
b. Students’ progress will only be discussed with the students' own parents or with appropriate professionals. Discussions with other Professional Staff will only occur on the basis of need and for the benefit of the child.
c. Professional staff members will treat parents with courtesy and respect, and should expect the same treatment from them.
d. Professional staff members will refer parent issues to the staff member closest to the issue.
e. Administrators will refer instructional and other related problems brought by parents to the teacher for resolution. If needed, parents may then proceed to the appropriate Principal and then to the Director to resolve their issues.
a. Professional staff members will serve as positive role models for all students, including observing rules and expectations held for student behavior.
b. Professional staff members will treat students with courtesy and respect, and should expect the same treatment from them.
c. Professional staff members will use appropriate, recognized disciplinary methods with students.
d. Professional staff members will be attentive to the safety and well-being of students at all times.
e. Professional staff members will not discuss their own or other staff members’ personal issues (e.g. divorce, personal relationships, and the like) with students.
f. Professional staff members will maintain complete and accurate student records.
g. Faculty and Students being “friends” or “followers” on social media (this includes but is not limited to personal facebook, twitter, whatsapp) is not an appropriate behavior at Academia Cotopaxi. Only authorized professional social media will be used for communications and educational purposes.
a. Supervisory personnel will treat staff members with courtesy and respect.
b. Supervisory personnel will assign duties, activities and other related responsibilities equitably to all staff.
c. Professional staff members will address problems and/or instructional concerns with their immediate supervisor and then, as needed, follow the established chain of authority to reach final resolution.
d. Supervisory personnel will address problems and/or instructional concerns directly with the staff member(s) involved.
a. Professional staff members will treat each other with courtesy and respect.
b. Professional staff members will respect one another’s point of view.
c. Professional staff members will discuss differences with the colleague(s) involved to resolve problems, seeking help when needed to be able to resolve such issues in a professional manner.
d. Professional staff members will not interrupt other classes in non-emergency situations.
e. Professional staff members will not discuss other staff members’ personal issues (e.g. divorce, personal relationships, and the like).
a. Professional staff members will be aware of their role as representatives of the School and will act appropriately.
b. Professional staff members will be aware of the culture and social norms of the Ecuadorian community and will act appropriately.
c. Professional staff members will be aware of the tendency for the Quito community to note personal conduct and consider it as legitimate topic for conversation and will act appropriately.
a. Professional staff members will participate in various professional activities including, but not limited to staff development, curriculum development and evaluation, study programs, school community projects, and extracurricular activities.
b. Professional staff members will use discretion and sound judgment when dealing with potentially controversial issues.
c. Professional staff members will not comment negatively about school personnel, policies and students outside our professional community.
d. Professional staff members will respect and honor the intellectual property rights of others, including colleagues and the School.
e. Professional staff members will be punctual and responsible when fulfilling their various instructional and non-instructional responsibilities.
