Service in the Middle School
The Middle School (MS) was treated to a very special assembly last week, dedicated to service. We heard presentations from several MSers about their independent service initiatives. It was inspiring for all! Ask your child to tell you more about the service assembly. The MS service website is always accessible here (service website). The link is on Edmodo, in the Service folder. I would like to especially draw your attention to our first MS Service Newsletter: Service Learning in the Middle. This link is also available on the service website and the idea is that it will be published monthly. We are all very proud of our Middle School students who choose to go “above and beyond” for service.
The MS is celebrating Quito Days! MS Spanish classes treated us to a Quito Days assembly during FLEX last week, we are playing a MS cuarenta tournament in FLEX this week, and the fun all culminates with special Quito Days Games, just for the MS, on Wednesday morning. These events all add up to very Middle School appropriate ways to learn about and celebrate this special aspect of Ecuadorian culture. Thank you to the Spanish department and House Leaders for their amazing organization of these events!
Counselor’s Corner - Aubrey Jordan
The past few weeks in Cougar Time, the MS students have been building upon bullying prevention by learning about boundaries, harassment (as listed in the MS handbook as well as Ecuadorian non-discriminatory laws), and privilege, and how these impact our community. The first step to making change is becoming aware, and students are using this awareness to learn to be responsible and speak up for themselves and others so that we might work towards a more inclusive world.
Enjoy the long holiday weekend celebrating Quito!
With kind regards,
