Sheryl is joining the administrative team at Academia Cotopaxi in 2017. She has spent the past five years at Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) as a Middle School Learning Leader. Prior to JIS, she taught at Taipei American School and the International School of Islamabad. Her experience in the field of education also includes working with and directing nonprofit organizations in Rwanda, Bolivia and Borneo. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Minnesota and a certificate in International School Leadership. Sheryl is delighted to be returning to the mountains of South America and being part of the learning community at Academia Cotopaxi! Please contact her at sgruber@cotopaxi.k12.ec

Sara Gawura is the Middle School Instructional Coach. Sara’s second year at Academia Cotopaxi marks her 12th year as an educator. She has taught in Mexico, Chile, Michigan, and Colorado, and has also worked as an assessment coordinator and interventionist. Sara received her undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of Michigan. Her introduction to education was working for an outdoor education company where she planned and led academic and adventure based trips into the Andes Mountains and throughout the Patagonia. Her outdoor education experience led her to develop a field studies program in Colorado as well work as a crew leader at an expeditionary learning school with a robust adventure program. Her current position is a wonderful cross between passion, experience, and expertise, and she is looking forward to the upcoming years with Academia Cotopaxi.
