Elementary School - Summer Learning 2018

Elementary School - Summer Learning 2018

Dear Elementary School Parents and Students:

Summer is such an amazing time!  We invite you to connect with your children, watch them swim, run, laugh.. Enjoy as many moments with them as possible.  Find opportunities to support your child’s interests, connect with their inquiring minds, and help them to take on new challenges.

If you want ideas, here is a document with summer ideas, and remember that the more your children read, the more they will give this summer...

Enjoy their childhood this summer and all the beautiful possibilities that will be present!

Elementary School Principal

Summer Reading to Give…

Dear Students,

This summer you have an opportunity to read and GIVE! As you know it is so important to keep reading throughout the summer. In fact, many students who do not read over the summer end up coming to school at the beginning of the school year and have fallen way behind- this is called the “summer slide”. However, kids who read over the summer actually keep all that was learned and become even better readers! This is what we want for all of you at Academia Cotopaxi!

This is how the Pre K-5  Summer Reading to Give Program works:
For every 140 minutes (20 minutes each day of the 7-day week)  you read, you get to color in part of the AC cougar. When you have colored in the entire  cougar  you earn a book for a child in need! Mr. Books Bookstore will donate these books to a child through Extreme Response International, a  humanitarian aid organization committed to changing the lives of children who live in the Quito dump, and you will be celebrated at a beginning of the year assembly.

You will receive  a physical copy of the cougar from your teacher.  You can also print your copy Cougar copy (attached) and color it in throughout the summer. Just bring it back to school in the fall.  If you are a real go-getter, you may complete more than one cougar.

Our goal is 400  books, which we will meet if  all of the  children who are currently in Pre K-5 read over the summer!

What counts as reading? You can read or your parent can read aloud to you! BOTH count!
The School Library will be open during the summer (except during the month of July). Also, TumbleBooks has now made it much easier for your students to access your ebooks on their tablets and smartphones! A new TumbleBooks app is available for both iOS and Android devices from either the App Store or Google Play. Log in with our school username and password (cotopaxi/cougars) and enjoy ebooks anywhere you go.

If you are a PreK to Grade 5  student, and you have questions about reading  over the summer,  you can contact Teacher Titi Jimenez. cjimenez@cotopaxi.k12.ec

Special thanks to Mr. Books  for donating the books!
