Bucket filling at home
At school, we are strongly focusing on building community and supporting students to consistently contribute in positive ways.  We invite you to speak to your children about how they are being bucket fillers by demonstrating respect and kindness both at school and at home. Take notice of your children’s expressions, find ways to treasure them for the future, and share their stories to inspire others.

Have you logged into SeeSaw?
Research shows that children benefit tremendously from parents’ interaction with their learning.  Now, you have a powerful tool to do so, and we hope that you enjoy using the SeeSaw application.  All teachers have shared their blog posts, and are supporting students to include their personal posts. We are excited to build each child’s learning story and document it in a way that can last a lifetime.  We encourage children to reflect on their learning, and you will see drafts of work, learning moments and finalized products.  Yet, what is most important is to focus on the process that children are using and the thinking that is being applied to that process.  Celebrate your children for their posts, comment away and connect with their learning lives!

Understanding the baseline
During these next two weeks, our teachers will be gathering data on your children’s learning.  We will be carrying out literacy and math assessments through formal and observation-based tools.  This practice allows teachers to get baseline data and plan for next steps in learning.  Our support services are ready, and our elementary team is there to provide a personalized approach to each child’s learning journey.  We also know, that you are the experts when it comes to our child.  If you do have questions about their performance, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.  We are here to work together.

Parent education in math learning
There is a wonderful opportunity for YOU!   All parents are invited to meet Dr. Kreisberg who will be working with our educators over the next two weeks.  You will learn about contemporary approaches to the learning and teaching of mathematics.  We hope to see you on Thursday, September 13 in the new Elementary Art Room ("Atelier") for the parent workshop entitled “Math Instruction in the 21st Century: Adding Parents to the Equation."  The workshop begins at 3:30 p.m. and will run for an hour.  This will be a fun, interactive session! Child care will be provided. We ask parents to please RSVP in this document no later than Friday Sept. 7, 2018.
